Yearling Training Begins
Written by: Jacklyn Wyatt on March 1st, 2009

This is a reminder from administration at Equination.net to everyone that has yearlings in the game. Please be advised that breeding changed significantly this season and certain aspects of your yearlings are going to be a bit different than previously. It is highly recommended that everyone breaks their yearlings in, in order to find which distance and surface they really prefer.

Previously, it was easy to tell what your foals preferences would be. If they took the coat color of a specific parent, they would then have the same distance and surface preferences of that parent. However, that has changed and now preferences can be "crossed," which makes it very important to break your horses in to ensure they are going to train and race on the proper distance and surface. For example, if you bred a short dirt (SD) horse to a long turf (LT) horse, your foal could be: short dirt (SD), short turf (ST), long dirt (LD) or long turf (LT).

Equination wishes everyone the best of luck with training their new yearlings! Next season will be very exciting when these horses turn two and can begin racing! Any questions or concerns are more than welcome at jackie@equination.net. Please note that there is also a yearling auction taking place for premium members, so be sure to enter your horses before Wednesday!
