The annual running of the Road Runner Stakes (GIII) took place in Equination.net today. This is the last running where younger horses would get to compete before it becomes a six-year-old and up race next season. The race attracted a very talented field of sprinters and here are the results!
The Road Runner Stakes is a five furlong sprint on the dirt for four-year-olds and up. A purse of $300,000 was available. In a dominating performance, Monteith Magnum took the lead out of the gates and never looked back, pulling away to an impressive five and a half length victory. The five-year-old stallion from Rockin Cajun Stable III earned a respectable 127 rating for his efforts and has now put in six 122+ ratings in a row, including a second-place finish in the Sprint Classic (GI) last season. Bred by Monteith Stable, Magnum is a son of Back In Time Lombo and Monteith Mama Sue. He has won 14 of 20 starts, never finishing off the board, and has banked over $1.4 Million in his career.
Crossing the wire second was Spride Conda, who earned a 121.6 rating for his efforts. The six-year-old stallion is owned by Max Bourke Racing and was bred by CONDA. The son of Mountbatten Conda and Torr Bridge was third in the Sprint Classic (GI) last season and now has 20 wins in 30 starts with over $1.6 Million in earnings. Dreamstate SD finished third after vying with Monteith Magnum most of the way. The Star Lite Farms-owned four-year-old gelding earned a 119.7 rating for his efforts. Bred by Mile High Lodge, this son of Southpaw and CR-Edgy Sleeper-CR SDS has won 11 of 23 starts and has earned over $1 Million.
Congratulations to all participants, handicappers and remaining three survivor players!
